LOCAL &
SUSTAINABLE

It is a privilege to live and work in one of the UK's national parks.  That's why we do what we can to act sustainably and responsibly.  We do this by:

Eat and drink the view

We think its important to shop locally whenever we can.  It reduces food miles while supporting local communities and their businesses.

When you come to 1934 CAFE you are tasting  the produce and flavours of North Yorkshire and the North York Moors.  Locally reared meat, coffee roasted just down the road, bread from Helmsley and Thirsk, bakes from the cathedral city of Ripon, and fruit & vegetables from the best local grocer and farmers. We are proud to be part of a local network.  If you would like to know more, click on the links below.

The GreenGrocer Thirsk

At home we have used and loved The Greengrocer for years, so it made sense to bring that freshness and quality to 1934 CAFE.  Charlie and Fiona provide the finest selection of fresh produce daily, including fruit and vegetable box deliveries to YO7.

Johnson's of Thirsk

Traditional family butchers since 1830, Sarah-Jane and Andrew provide wonderful locally sourced meat, charcuterue, condiments and complimentary foodstuffs.  Its Johnson's sausages that are at the heart of our breakfast barms and freshly baked sausage rolls.

Katy Bakes

We met Katy at the Thirsk farmer's market where we sampled her gluten free galaxy brownie.  From that point we were hooked.   You can find Katy's gluten free and other creations in the cafe - from Biscoff to Blondie and mint aero marvels.

Moonshine Icecream

Real dairy Ice Cream made the traditional way.  The team at Moonshine take great care in choosing all their ingredients and great delight in creating new unique recipes for every occasion. Made in the nearby village of Coxwold they offer ice cream with 'Spirits ~ Liqueurs ~ Botanicals' and with out.  Either way, they are all delicious.

Roost

Small batch coffee roasters using ethically sourced green beans and eco friendly roasting technology Roost are the wonderful people behind our Brazilian coffee and Guatemala decaf.

Thomas the Baker

One of our larger suppliers, Thomas the Baker are nonetheless local to us.  Their fresh bread comes from either their main bakery in Helmsley or local shop in Thirsk producing delicious rolls, barms and more.
